Setting it up
- Install CleanCut on the iPhone or iPad you keep near the TV, on the same Wi-Fi as the Apple TV.
- Open it, pick your Apple TV, and type in the code that appears on the television. Once.
- Choose whether profanity is muted or skipped, and switch off any words you don’t mind hearing. Changes apply mid-episode.
- Press play in Crunchyroll. For the cleanest result, pick the English dub in Crunchyroll's audio settings. Nothing else to configure.

Questions about Crunchyroll
Does CleanCut work on subtitled anime, or only dubs?
Both, but dubs are the clean case. On a dub, the muted line is the line being spoken. On subtitled anime, CleanCut mutes the Japanese audio at the flagged moment, but Crunchyroll's own on-screen subtitle still prints the English word, because CleanCut controls the TV's sound and not the app's picture.
Does it work with Crunchyroll's mature-content setting?
Yes, and they do different jobs. That setting hides titles from the catalog; CleanCut mutes the language inside whatever you've chosen to play. You can leave the setting off and let CleanCut handle the dialogue.
Does it filter violence in anime?
No. CleanCut reads dialogue and filters language. It does not analyze the picture.
